Key Roles
Masters The Masters
supervise the breeding, care, and hunting of hounds.
They schedule, plan, and manage the hunts. The masters
provide the leadership and tone for the hunt club. They
also make a great effort to maintain cordial
relationships with landowners, over whose property we
pass when we hunt.
Hunt Staff
Huntsman The Huntsman
is responsible for training and hunting the hounds, and
for directing the whippers-in (see
below).
Whippers-Ins The
"Whips," or Whippers-in, as they are more formally
known, are membersof the hunt club selected by the
Master to assist in hunting the hounds. They
must understand the country and the hounds very
well.
Foxes The foxes are
responsible for placing the scent along a prescribed
course before the hunt.
Other Key Roles
Field Leaders The
Field Leaders lead the field of mounted riders.
They are responsible for ensuring that the field does
not interfere with the hounds or the work of the
Huntsman and her whippers-in. The Field Leaders try to
give the field the best viewing of the hunting hounds.
Field Secretary The
Field Secretary is responsible for collecting capping
fees, and recording the names of the riders hunting
and their mounts.
Kennelman The
Kennelman lives in proximity to the kennel and is
responsible for the daily care of the hounds and
kennel.
Hound Truck Driver The
Hound Truck Driver transports our pack of hounds to and
from the kennel to the hunt meetings and provides
support at checkpoints during the hunt.
Landowners Much of the
land we ride through is privately owned. Without
the graciousness and generosity of the owners of this
land, there would be no hunt. We obtain permission
from the all the landowners to ride over their
land.
